THE " LA NAO SANTA MARIA IS ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS SHIP OF HUMANITY. ON OCTOBER 12, 1492 CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS LEAD ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT MILESTONES IN HISTORY WHEN ABOARD THE SANTA MARIA HE DISCOVERED AMERICA. THE LA SANTA MARIA WAS THE LARGEST OF THE 3 SHIPS AND WAS THE FLAGSHIP OF COLUMBUS'S FLEET
THE NOA SANTA MARIA REPLICA WAS BUILT AND IS CURRENTLY OPERATED BY THE NAO VICTORIA FOUNDATION. THE NAO SANTA MARI WAS BUILT AT PUNTA UMBRA SHIPYARD THAT IS IN SPAIN WHICH TOOK OVER 12 MONTHS TO BUILD AND WAS LAUNCHED IN MARCH 2017. THE AMERICAN PRIVATEER LYNX IS AN INTERPRETATION OF AN ACTUAL PRIVATEER THAT WAS NAMED LYNX THAT WAS BUILT IN 1812. THE LYNX WAS AMONG THE FIRST SHIP S TO DEFEND AMERICAN FREEDOM BY THE EVADING BRITISH NAVAL FLEETS. IN 1997 WOODSON K. WOODS EMBARKED ON A JOURNEY TO BUILD A PRIVATEER FROM THE WAR OF 1812. HIS GOAL WAS TO CREATE A LIVING MUSEUM TO EDUCATE CHILDREN AND ADULTSABOUT AMERICAN HISTORY THROUGH ACTIVE SAIL TRAINING ABOARD A RAEL WOODEN SAILING SHIP. USS St. Mary's 1798 Tall Ship was a galley style vessel that was 52 foot in length with a beam of 15 feet. She was equipped with 1 x 24 pound gun, 5 x Brass howitzers and had 2 officers and 26 enlisted crew members. The USS St. Mary's was built on the St. Mary's River in St. Mary's Georgia at Patterson shipyard. The USS St Mary's was commissioned in 1798 and the was decommissioned in 1802. Her Fate is still unknown.
The USS St. Mary's was one of seven galley style war vessel that was built the Navy as part of the Coastal Defense Program during the Quasi-War with France. The USS St. Mary's Galley cruised the coast of Georgia from 1778 til 1802. Her main job was to protect local commerce and coastal settlement from Armed French Vessel's that was operating in the area and that regularly sailing up from the Florida area.
The USS St. Mary's Galley Tall Ship Model is the Flagship model for the St. Mary's Tall Ship Alliance. She was built in 2017 here in St. Mary's Georgia by James S. Crawford. The Model was built from scratch, with only a picture and a graph drawing of the hull. It took a little 5 months to build the USS St. Mary's Galley Model. James Crawford is currently the Vice President for The St. Mary's Tall Ship Alliance. non profit organizations tall ships
